Lorsan Tablet contains Losartan Potassium 25 mg, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that helps manage high blood pressure (hypertension) and protect against heart and kidney complications. It works by selectively blocking angiotensin II—a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten—leading to vasodilation (widening of blood vessels), reduced blood pressure, and decreased strain on the heart.

Losartan is widely prescribed as a first-line therapy for hypertension, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensives. By effectively lowering blood pressure, Lorsan reduces the risk of strokes, heart attacks, and other cardiovascular events. It is also useful in patients with type 2 diabetes to help protect the kidneys, especially in those with proteinuria (protein in urine), making it beneficial in diabetic nephropathy.

This tablet is well-tolerated and preferred in patients who do not respond well to ACE inhibitors or experience side effects like dry cough. Unlike ACE inhibitors, Losartan does not significantly interfere with bradykinin metabolism, making it a more suitable option for long-term therapy in certain individuals.

Lorsan should be taken regularly, ideally at the same time each day, with or without food. Blood pressure monitoring and periodic kidney function tests are advised during treatment. Dose adjustments may be necessary for elderly patients or those with impaired renal function.

Patients are advised to avoid potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium unless prescribed, as this medication may increase potassium levels in the blood.
