Risplom 2T MD Tablet is a dual-action formulation that combines the therapeutic effects of Risperidone, an atypical antipsychotic, and Trihexyphenidyl, an anticholinergic agent. This unique combination is specifically designed to address both the psychotic symptoms of conditions such as schizophrenia and the motor side effects often associated with long-term antipsychotic therapy. Risperidone functions by modulating neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin in the brain, helping to improve mood, thought clarity, emotional regulation, and reduce hallucinations or delusions. However, such medications may lead to extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS), including tremors, rigidity, or involuntary muscle movements. To counter this, Trihexyphenidyl is added to mitigate these EPS by restoring the balance between acetylcholine and dopamine in the central nervous system. Together, they create a more tolerable and effective long-term management option for psychiatric disorders. This combination is especially useful in patients who are sensitive to EPS or who have a history of movement disorders when treated with antipsychotics alone. Common side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, and weight gain. Serious but rare effects may include worsening of psychiatric symptoms, confusion, or involuntary muscle movements. Patients should report any unusual changes in behavior or movement.
This medication is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders in patients who require both antipsychotic control and management of drug-induced movement disorders (extrapyramidal symptoms).
Use with caution in patients with glaucoma, cardiac issues, urinary retention, or history of seizures. Alcohol and other CNS depressants should be avoided during therapy. Activities requiring full mental alertness (like driving) should be performed carefully.
