Methafoli 20 Tablet contains Methoxsalen 20mg, a psoralen derivative used in PUVA (Psoralen + UVA) therapy. Methoxsalen works by sensitizing the skin to ultraviolet (UVA) light, helping to slow down the excessive skin cell growth associated with certain dermatological conditions. It binds to DNA when activated by UVA light, inhibiting cell proliferation and reducing abnormal pigmentation. It is most commonly used in the treatment of skin disorders that involve hyperproliferation or pigment imbalance.
Common side effects may include nausea, dizziness, and headache. Due to increased sensitivity to light, phototoxic reactions, skin redness, or blistering may occur if exposed to excessive sunlight. Long-term use may increase the risk of premature skin aging or, rarely, skin cancer with repeated UV exposure.
Methafoli 20 is primarily indicated for the treatment of vitiligo, psoriasis, and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). It is used as part of PUVA therapy, where it is administered before controlled UVA light exposure to improve skin pigmentation or reduce scaling and inflammation.
Methoxsalen should only be used under strict medical supervision as part of a PUVA regimen. Avoid exposure to natural sunlight or artificial UV light after taking the tablet unless advised by a physician. Use protective eyewear and skin covering as directed. Not suitable for use in patients with sensitivity to light or a history of melanoma.
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep the medicine out of reach of children.
