Levonoble DEC Tablet is a combination of an antihistamine (Levocetirizine) and an anti-filarial agent (Diethylcarbamazine) designed to provide dual action in the treatment of allergic and parasitic conditions. Levocetirizine, a third-generation non-sedating antihistamine, works by selectively blocking H1 receptors to relieve symptoms like itching, sneezing, runny nose, and skin allergies. Diethylcarbamazine (DEC) is an anthelmintic specifically used to treat filarial infections; it kills microfilariae and adult worms, helping to clear the parasitic load and reduce associated inflammation. This combination is particularly useful in managing allergic manifestations related to parasitic infections and provides both symptomatic relief and curative therapy.
Common side effects include mild drowsiness, dizziness, headache, or gastrointestinal discomfort such as nausea and abdominal pain. During treatment of filariasis, some patients may experience fever, malaise, joint pain, or skin reactions due to the death of microfilariae (Mazzotti-type reaction). Rarely, allergic reactions, severe dizziness, or visual disturbances may occur. Most effects are temporary and subside as the body adjusts to the medication.
Levonoble DEC Tablet is indicated for the treatment of filariasis (lymphatic filarial infections) caused by Wuchereria bancrofti, Brugia malayi, and related parasites. It is also used to relieve allergic symptoms such as itching, rhinitis, and urticaria that may be associated with parasitic infestations or hypersensitivity reactions during anti-filarial treatment.
Levonoble DEC Tablet should be taken under medical supervision. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to either component. Caution is advised in individuals with kidney or liver impairment and in pregnant or breastfeeding women unless deemed necessary by the physician. During treatment for filariasis, patients should be monitored for allergic or inflammatory reactions due to parasite death. Adequate hydration and adherence to the prescribed course are essential for optimal results. Alcohol should be avoided as it may enhance drowsiness caused by Levocetirizine. Do not self-medicate or discontinue abruptly without consulting a healthcare professional.
Store Levonoble DEC Tablet in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the tablets in their original blister packaging and out of reach of children. Do not use beyond the expiry date printed on the pack.
